What you will need:

  • Sewing Gospel Threads worksheet (2 versions available – see below); 1 per child (printed on cardstock)
  • Coloring items such as colored pencils, crayons, or markers;  make sure you have enough of each color for kids to use at the same time (or at least only have to share between a couple of kids); colors you will need – white, black, red, lime green, yellow
  • Brown cross cut out of sticker-backed foam (Template HERE); 1 per child

Instructions:

This activity is one of my favorite learning reinforcement activities for the Gospel Threads curriculum.  It is great for visual reinforcement of the words and the colors. And if you want to embellish further, just give the kids some star stickers and let them put the appropriate colored sticker on the matching color of the worksheet.

This worksheet can be completed in one of two ways:  First, it can be completed in a single day, and this is my preference.  Specifically, it works great to use this worksheet on Day 5 as a review of all of the Gospel Threads.    As you review each Gospel color and what they represent, students can color or paint that section of the worksheet. This approach is more appropriate for settings in which inconsistent attendance is suspected.

Secondly, the worksheet can be used to supplement each day of teaching.  As a form of review, simply have the children color the section that matches the day’s teaching. Reinforce the main theme of the day and the key words as the students color or paint their worksheet.  Don’t forget to have children write their names on the back of their worksheets so they can be redistributed on subsequent days.  This approach works best in school settings or organized programs in which you expect consistent attendance.

Note: on Day Three, students will color the section about Jesus red as well as stick on the brown foam cross as you emphasize the point that Jesus is the bridge from death to life.  Here is what the cross foam stickers look like after they are cut out…
